Description

Mongrel started life as a 2008 Hyosung RT 125 Karion.
Cosmetically she wasn’t very well looked after. A few years ago my sisters boyfriend bought Mongrel on eBay as a Sorn bike that wouldn’t start. My dad replaced the carburettor, the rear shock, chain and sprockets, throttle cable, front brake calliper and rear brake pads.

My sisters boyfriend then got Mongrel MoT’d and rode her for about 4 months. He then decided to make her into a cafe racer.
However after cutting the frame under the seat, removing the exhaust and cutting off the fuel tank mounts he lost interest and Mongrel sat under a tarpaulin for the next 7/8 months.

My dad then got ownership of Mongrel after my sister and her boyfriend split up. However Mongrel was missing a fair bit of stuff. Including the logbook. My dad applied for a new logbook, which we have in my name. After he got the log book he set about getting Mongrel back on the rode. I got my CBT for my 17th birthday but Mongrel doesn’t get ridden anymore. Mainly because she is too tall for me.
Mongrel is a little unique, fun to ride, but not perfect.

I will list everything that I know that needs attention.

Carburettor needs jetting down on the main jet. We have the jet kit but my dad hasn’t had time to tinker with it.
The pillion seat (it’s just there for looks) doesn’t lock down tightly so it makes a vibration noise(?) at higher revs.
It’s a bit loud (not illegally loud) but better now that we have the silencer in.
One of the front fork seals has started to mist a little bit.
There is a wire near the ignition coil (dad said it’s around there. He hasn’t looked at it yet. He hates wiring) that has a bit of a short. Sometimes I have to move the wire for it to start correctly. Once started she runs fine.

There isn’t another one like her. However unique doesn’t mean perfection but if you’re the kind of person that doesn’t mind tinkering then she can be a great bike.

She has a dual over head cam. A Suzuki GS125 bottom end. A very wide rear tyre. The Karion was made to be an off road/on road bike. Couldn’t source the original exhaust so it now has an one the runs under the bike. The seats, rear fairing and rear light is from a Rieju RS2 and the rear indicators/tail tidy is from an Aprilia RS. Has a bit of rust here and there. She isn’t perfect.
Has a MoT until 18 October 2018.
