Beautifully hand painted mezzotinto engraving by Herbert Sedcole (1864 - 1920 or 1934). Signed in pencil. Copyright June 2nd 1914 by fine art dealers, Arthur Tooth and Sons of 155 New Bond Street, London W, Paris and New York.
It depicts Mrs Steele after the portrait by 18th century painter George Romney. I'm not absolutely sure but I think Mrs Steele might be the affluent wife of portrait painter, Christopher Steele, to whom Romney was apprenticed at a studio in Redmaynes Yard in Kendal. Steele eloped with her in 1756.
The engraving is in a black and gold frame (48.5 X 55.5 cm). There is some foxing on the mount.

I'm also selling an engraving of Julia, Lady Peel and would sell both for £80.

I would prefer buyer collects as the picture is fragile and quite heavy but can post for the cost of p+p.
