Description

All solid woods set-neck dreadnought acoustic made in the Matsumoko factory in Japan between 1972-75, with a solid spruce top, solid rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, herringbone inlaid top binding and soundhole rosette, original tuners and tortoiseshell effect scratch plate with Epiphone "€" logo.

A loud and lively guitar with a powerful open sound when played with a flatpick, crisp with articulate note separation, mellowing out when played fingersyle. Action is comfortable without being too slick. Tuning and intonation are fine.

Cosmetically it is in good condition for its years, with the usual minor dings here and there. Structurally it is sound with no cracks or splits, though the headstock facing looks as though it may have been refinished following a repair at some point (see pic). There's no other indication of any work done and the set neck and headstock are solid and stable.

These early solid woods, set neck Japanese-made Epiphone acoustics were sadly superseded by laminate, bolt-on necked versions in the late 1970s. There doesn't seem to be that many of them around in the UK - most of them seem to have gone to the US or to Europe. I've only ever seen one other offered for sale in the UK.

This guitar is offered with a new-ish soft padded gig-bag. No swap or part-exchange offers please.
