Ibanez Maxxas MX3 1988 Black Hall Electric Guitar Made In Japan

Description
This is an Ibanez Maxxas MX3 in the rare Black Hall finish, an innovative and forward-thinking design from the late 1980s that showcased Ibanez’s engineering excellence and attention to player comfort. Built during a period of bold experimentation, the Maxxas series blended sleek, ergonomic contours with high-performance playability, making it a standout among Ibanez’s most distinctive designs.
Originally introduced as a premium offset model, the MX3 featured a lightweight sculpted body, slim neck profile, and advanced hardware, all aimed at delivering maximum comfort and tonal versatility. This example has been modified for greater tonal range, now fitted with a pair of vintage DiMarzio humbuckers (believed to be from the 1980s), along with an added single-coil pickup in the middle position. A 5-way selector switch has been installed to make full use of the expanded pickup configuration, offering a wide palette of tones from bright, snappy cleans to powerful, saturated leads.
The knobs have been replaced, but the guitar still retains its original tremolo arm. Cosmetically, this MX3 is in fair condition overall, it shows honest wear from use, including a finish crack near the output jack and another at the top of the headstock. The rear electronics panel has been removed, though all electronics remain fully functional.
It comes supplied with a soft bag for protection and transport.
Despite its age and player wear, this Ibanez Maxxas MX3 remains a remarkable example of late-’80s Japanese craftsmanship — a fast-playing, expressive instrument that combines vintage innovation with unique modifications that make it even more versatile.
