Description

[Gibson website]
"A crowning achievement! Developed through years of research, the luxurious Super 400-CES has been acclaimed by outstanding musicians everywhere as the finest electric Spanish guitar. Superior materials and superb Gibson craftsmanship produce its clear, clean-cut powerful tone and dependable performance."
'One of the great aristocrats of the guitar world', this is an excellent example of the quintissential jazz guitar.

Manufactured January 1992 and bearing the signature of J Triggs, then chief luthier, the appearance is excellent. Its natural finish displays the excellent grain and finish. It has been little played in its 25 years so is in excellent condition. No dings or scratches, no repairs or changes. It comes with its original, lined Gibson case and the original tags and labels from new.

• Gibson Super 400 CESN
• Manufactured Jan 1992
• No. 93401861
• Carved spruce top.
• Purchased new, by first owner in 1994 and purchased by me from the original owner in August 1998
• Excellent condition reflects the fact that the guitar has been rarely used, lived in its case and never gigged.
• Two, interchangeable floating bridges - the original ebony bridge (fitted permanently since I have owned it) and a Gibson gold-plated adjustable model. This cost £50 in 1994). The varnish used by Gibson has a characteristic, slightly crazed finish. This is not readily apparent.
• In recent years, the guitar has been examined and set up by two professional luthiers.
• The original, shaped, brown, satin lined case, incorporating guitar cover, is also in excellent condition
• I also have a good, early hardback copy of Thomas Van Hoose’s book, Gibson Super 400: Art of the Fine Guitar
• Further details and pics available on request. Superb instrument - one of Gibson's top instruments, beautiful and in excellent condition.

The Super 400 is no longer a stock item and the wait for a new one can be lengthy. The natural finish of the CESN displays the high quality of the timber and its grain - no coloured finishes to obscure imperfections and this is reflected in its value. However, it is no longer listed on the Gibson website - I understand that new Super 400s are now available only as a special order - at a price well in excess of £20,000. Other costs such as VAT and carriage add significantly the price.

I am happy to talk by 'phone in response to serious interest if you e-mail me first. Thanks for looking. The acoustics were last offered in ’97, but the electric cutaway Super 400 CES not only remains in production in the Historic Collection, it still holds its traditional position as the highest-priced of Gibson’s “core production” models.
