Description
This is a Crafted in Japan Fender Stratocaster ’70s reissue in the exceptionally rare Antigua finish, produced in 2003 by Tokai Gakki during Fender Japan’s CIJ era. With only around 400 examples ever built, this model is among the scarcest of all Japanese reissues and has become highly sought-after by collectors worldwide.
The Antigua finish itself is part of Fender folklore. First introduced in the late 1960s and only ever applied to a handful of models, it divides opinion but has always commanded intrigue. On this Stratocaster it is striking, instantly transporting the guitar into Fender’s more eccentric 1970s aesthetic while remaining unmistakably classic. Paired with an alder body, a maple “U” profile neck, and a 7.25-inch radius maple fingerboard, it faithfully captures the feel of the early-’70s originals.
Tonally, the guitar delivers everything you expect from a Stratocaster: crisp and articulate single-coil clarity, biting bridge tones, and sweet, bell-like neck sounds, all enhanced by the three-pickup layout and vintage-style synchronized tremolo. It is as much a player’s instrument as it is a visual statement piece, though its scarcity means most owners treat it with the care of a collectible.
This particular example remains in excellent condition, showing only minor signs of play that add authenticity without detracting from its value. The finish is vibrant and well-preserved, the neck is smooth, the frets are in superb shape, and the electronics are fully functional.
It comes with a gig bag but a hard case can be sourced if shipping is required - please get in touch if this is needed. There is no trem arm, but one can be sourced if required.
With its combination of rarity, unique styling, and the revered build quality of Fender Japan, this Antigua Stratocaster is far more than just another reissue, it is a genuine collector’s piece with enduring appeal.
