Description

Sept. 2010 Ford Ka Titanium 1.2 petrol. Very reluctant sale – good home required. One (fastidious) owner since April 2011. Genuine 57,000 miles.

Full service history and all MOTs. Next MOT due Sept 21st 2018. Both keys and all key code cards. New camshaft belt and uprated water pump fitted only 4,000 miles ago.

Original spec. Continental tyres all round, including two new Contis fitted last month. Finished in desirable ‘Strobe’ (gunmetal) metallic paint. Valued by Cazana at £3,959 without the following fitted extras: Ford rear spoiler in body colour (£390); Climair Sport wind defectors (£50); and wheel bolt chrome caps. Also included is a fifth 16” Y-spoke alloy wheel and tyre (£209) to supplement the factory-fitted space-saver.

The Ford Titanium package includes: top-end 6-speaker radio/CD/MP3 player with sub-woofer (dropped from later models); air-con with climate control; electric windows; tinted privacy glass; heated windscreen; height-adjustable driver’s seat; split rear seats; 16” Y-spoke alloy wheels; fitted fog lights; chrome door handles; chrome hatchback handle; stainless steel silencer + chrome tailpipe; body-coloured door mirrors; door aperture “Ka” scuff plates.

I bought this car from Ford dealer Evans Halshaw in April 2011, and have lovingly maintained it to this day. In the Titanium trim and with the fitted extras, it is arguably the ultimate Ka and surely a future classic. When I learned in April 2016 that Ford had ceased production of this model, and then saw the pictures of its ugly replacement, the new 5-door Ka+, I immediately tracked down and acquired one of the last 20 Ka Titaniums on sale in Britain, so enjoyable has this car been to own and drive.

It looks fantastic, has a great driving position, it's nippy around town, fun on winding country roads, and will sit on the motorway all day long. It's very comfortable too, and with its high driving position it’s a cinch to step in and out of.

Whether its classical music, power ballads, or rock, the stereo sounds superb with a rich rounded sound and powerful bass, and far superior to the new car’s. (It is also more powerful and more economical than the new car, which is fitted with the much-criticised Euro 6 engine.)

Four years ago my wife and I travelled down to the south of France in it and it didn't miss a beat. The boot is surprisingly large - much larger then the Fiat 500 on which it is based - and using soft luggage we managed to get everything in, leaving the interior completely free of clutter.

For the last year since acquiring the new car my wife and I have had a Ka apiece (she drives the new one). However now, thanks to her desire to go caravanning (!), and with grandchildren popping up, my trusty Ka must now find a new home. We're actually both a little melancholy at the prospect of seeing it go. It's been an absolute cracker: taking everything into consideration, in all truth it’s probably been the best car I've owned.
