Wooden Besson Bb Clarinet, made in England, serial number 217107.
My parents bought this for me 46 years ago. It was second hand, so I don't know how old it is and haven't managed to find out from the serial number, which is 217107.
Wooden with a lovely grain, apart from the mouthpiece which is some sort of plastic.
I had it recorked and repadded some years ago and a new mouthpiece, which cost me £135 in total. The original Besson mouthpiece, which was cracked, is still in the case, loose.
The case is old and well used and there is no key, but the clasps still work perfectly.
Plays well and beautifully with a mellow tone.
Comes with a collection of extras, namely:
*almost new pull-though (Slade)
*box of ricotta royal reeds 2 1/2
*2 x 1.5 reeds in plastic packets
*full bottle of Steiner Bore Oil natural, 60ml.
*barely used Rico cork grease
*various other reeds and reed cases.
*antique empty bottle of Selmer bore oil with brush that was originally one shilling and nine pence! It came with the clarinet and have never had the heart to throw the empty bottle out.
A beginner would need to start on a softer reed at 1.5.
I got to Grade 6 on this clarinet and also played it weekly in the school orchestra.
