NOTE : THIS CHEST IS HUGE & EXTREMELY HEAVY!
We are delighted to offer this extremely impressive Anglo-Indian dowry chest in a solid Rosewood with brass inlaid detailing.
The chest is extremely heavy & made of half inch thick solid Rosewood. Fabulous black flame grain wood with contrasting brass inlaid decoration. Scrolling Fleur-de-lis, filigree edge details & opposing pheasant griffin like creatures to the front & top. It retains its large cast brass hooped key & finely decorated lock escutcheon. Keys turns the lock but the lock doesn’t lock the top. Thick cast brass knop swing drop handle at each end. Top is heavy to open & has thick heavy gauge brass back hinges inside.
This chest comes directly from a recent grand estate sale & is sold in as found age related vintage condition. This is a hand made piece & has some inserted wood section which can be seen in some of its construction. In my opinion, a just delightful feature. Minor surface scuffs & some light dinks. Minor wood shrinkage crack across center front but remains solid with no structure issues. Some minor brass lift in places but again not serious & the chest displays very nicely indeed.
Just a fabulous & very impressive chest in all respects . . .
