Vauxhall Astra Comfort 1.6 16v with Factory Fit LPG system
Selling as I need a car with an automatic gearbox.
I've owned this car since July 2008 and it has served me well. The car was previously owned by the National Trust for Scotland, who meticulously maintained it throughout the 6 years and 93,000 miles they owned it. The mileage is currently around 155,000 and I have replaced many parts in the time I've owned it including new front brakes (calipers, pads, discs and pipes), both front
track rod ends, steering arm, new EGR valve (common Astra problem), new thermostat, both front wheel bearings and new ball joints. It has been regularly serviced, although the book hasn't been stamped since I have serviced it myself.
The car benefits from a custom leather interior. The seats were taken from a Vectra SRi, and were professionally covered with blue and grey leather. Ironically, they're much more comfortable than the standard Astra Comfort seats! Sadly, there's a small tear in the centre of the rear seat from where one of my Jack Russells scratched it.
When running on LPG, the car averages 26.9mpg. Current LPG prices in my area (Glasgow & Ayrshire) are 74.7p per litre so a full tank costs around £38 and gives between 295-315 miles. In order to get the same return on 'conventional' fuel, you'd need to average 51.1mpg with a diesel or 48.6mpg on petrol, so if you're looking for a cheap runaround, this is the ideal car for you! I've kept a record of the gas I've bought since I've owned it and it's saved me £5,600 over
4 years and 60,000 miles compared to petrol prices. Not exactly pocket change!
It is also taxed until the end of June 2012, and benefits from a discount due to it being registered as an alternative fuel vehicle on the logbook.
There are, however, some minor issues with the car. The windscreen has a scratch on it from when the rubber came off the wiper and the arm scratched the screen. This was noted as an advisory on the last MOT and will likely need replaced before the next MOT (11 and a half months), but this can be done on your insurance for the cost of the windscreen excess (normally around £70). There are 2 remote keys for it, but one of them has snapped and needs a new blade.
Additionally, the engine management light is on. The reason for this is that the car runs on 3 cylinders when on petrol. The cause is likely one of the injectors as I've replaced the spark plugs and have had the ECU checked out for faults. This has never been an issue for me though, as the car runs perfectly on gas; petrol is only required to start the engine. After around 1 minute when cold or a couple of seconds when warm it switches across to the gas system.
There are a few dots of rust on the car, mainly around the LPG filler (see pics) but the general condition of the bodywork and paintwork is good. The only other thing I can think of that is a negative point is that I've had my aforementioned dogs in the car and their hairs stick to carpets. I'll try and get them out but it's a difficult task so there may still be the odd one.
The price has been set at a reasonable amount in accordance with the Glass's price guide. Buyer must collect from Irvine, North Ayrshire although I may deliver within a reasonable distance if fuel costs are paid for.
I think I've covered everything, but if you have any queries please feel free to ask!
