About this child/client Irene, 41, enjoys cross-stitch, online shopping and collecting Jellycats. She has complex medical conditions including Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Mast Cell Activation Disorder, Gastroparesis, non-epileptic seizures, PTSD and spinal instability. Her progressive condition affects her neurologically and she likely has an Acquired Brain Injury. Irene experiences chronic pain, fatigue and fluctuating emotions including frustration and anxiety. She lives with her parents and is mostly confined to bed due to pain and exhaustion. Irene can transfer with light support and requires assistance with personal care, daily bed baths and commode use.
Overview of role: You will provide 1:1 support for Irene during day and night shifts. Overnight support may include assisting during seizures, providing pain relief, replenishing drinks and monitoring wellbeing. The carer’s bedroom is next to Irene’s room with a buzzer alert system. Some nights may allow uninterrupted sleep, while others require extended support. Irene may need oxygen support in the morning and usually sleeps until early afternoon. She also enjoys chatting, games and therapies such as aromatherapy. The role includes light household duties relating to Irene’s care, including washing and ironing.
Who this role would suit: Someone calm, empathetic, emotionally robust and positive, who understands fluctuating emotions linked to complex health conditions and does not take things personally. You will know when to step back and give Irene space. Due to allergies, no strong perfumes or foods including peanuts, onions or shellfish should be consumed before shifts. Clean, short nails are essential. You will respect Irene’s Christian faith, DNR and ADRT decisions, and understand the importance of sensitivity within the family home. Experience with controlled medication and complex care is essential, although training can be provided for specific tasks.
What’s great about this job: A rewarding opportunity to use your skills to make a genuine difference. Additional hours are available to cover sickness and holidays, and grouped shifts support a positive work/life balance.
Recruitment Process: Managed through Snap Care’s Shortlist Service. Applications are reviewed before suitable candidates are shared with the client to continue the recruitment process directly. By applying, you consent to your details being shared with our client.
