Vintage Sewing book: DMC/de Dillmont Encyclopedia of Needlework

This is a well illustrated wee book of over 800 pages, with detailed info on many types of needlework, including sewing, knitting, embroidery, sewing machines of the time, darning, cross stitch, appliqué, tapestry open work, lace, DMC products . . . . the table of contents alone run to 8 pages. A great reference book.

The book isn’t dated, but you’ll see from the photos that it says 940,000 copies have been issued and that it’s a new, revised edition. The illustrations are mainly black and white drawings or photos, with a few colour plates.

The book shows signs of use and wear, including torn joins (and sellotape) on the inside end pages, some loosening of some of the stitching, fading and discolouration to covers and edges, a previous owner’s details, and wear to the attached bookmark ribbon, but the pages are all attached and overall it’s not in bad condition given that it’s probably well over 80 years old (tho as I say it’s undated, that’s just a guess)

It’s about 14cm tall, about 9cm wide, and about 4cm thick. It’s been in smoke free and pet free homes for over 25 years.
