The author says, “Like countless other painters, I have spent many hours wandering around art material shops looking blankly at the wide array of watercolours on offer. The choice can be bewildering.
Books which offered advice invariably promoted one brand or the other. Conflicting snippets of information about colours which faded, or were in some other way unsuitable, added to the confusion. I never once purchased with absolute confidence.
One thing was very clear in my mind, I wanted to know more about the materials that I used.
