My Van de Stadt style, Steel, Sloop Rigged, sailing yacht is for sale.

Please note that STEELAWAY is being sold as seen, and as a project boat. It has been ashore for 5 years approx at least!

THEREFORE IT IS OBVIOUSLY GOING TO NEED SOME WORK BEFORE IT GOES BACK INTO THE WATER!

THE BOAT IS LOCATED AT MARYPORT, CUMBERLAND, AND NOT IN DORSET. DORSET IS WHERE I USED TO LIVE BEFORE MOVING TO TURKEY!!!

The photo's show the boat as it was when I purchased it, in December 2019, as a Yellow Coloured boat, and also in early 2022 when I had the boat painted Blue, with a White Stripe.
STEELAWAY is currently ashore at the Maryport Yacht Club. Maryport is approximately 30 miles from Carlisle. It was located there when I bought it, and they agreed to let me continue to keep the boat there. I am sure you could also keep boat there for renovation, but you will need to arrange this with the Yacht Club. My current fee to store the boat is £238.50 Per Month.

REASON FOR SALE AND THE LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY THAT I KNOW ABOUT THE BOAT,

WHY I BOUGHT THE BOAT
I brought the boat, STEELAWAY, from a guy who lived in Liverpool, and he travelled up to Cumberland to fix the boat. He bought the boat from a Norwegian man who lived locally, called Olaf (He is famous at the MaryportYacht Club)!!
The engine on the boat had seized, and so Olaf sold it. I was told that the engine was removed and rebuilt. You can see the picture where the boat is painted white, which is the engine bay. The engine is back in situ.
However, he decided that he did not have the time to continue to renovate the boat, and advertised it on eBay, which is where I found it!!! I wanted it, so that I could sail around the Greek Islands here. It WOULD have been ideal. Circumstances have made it impossible for me now to to this, hence the reason why it is on sale.

THE BOAT
The White ''cockpit canopy'' which you can see in the pictures, is made of Fibre Glass, and was built by Olaf. He got fed up of the Canvas Canopy ripping, and so he built the same thing, out of Fibre Glass.!

I met, and spoke with Olaf, at Maryport Marina. He gave me a bit of history of the boat. For example: he sailed NUMEROUS times over the Atlantic to the U.S.A. He did this SOLO Sailing, and apparently the kit to do that is still on board.
He also took it through the ice, to Norway! (He said it was no problem, because it was made of steel, he could crash through the thin ice!
He said he loved the boat, and was reluctant to sell it.

I had the boat surveyed before I bought it, and that survey is attached as a .pdf file.
The guy who did the survey said that I had a really good boat, and definitely worth what I paid for it.

The other thing I did before I paid cash for it, was to insist that the guy started the engine, which has been re-built. However, although it turned over very well, and coughed and spluttered, it did not actually fire. It was almost there, and good enough for me to accept that it would, eventually start.
The engine is a Yanmar 2 GM, and I have been told it is worth in the region of £3K. There is a complete manual of the engine with the paperwork, and also a CD ROM.
There are two new batteries on the boat, to start the engine, but I think I must have blown a fuse or something, because I cannot get the ignition for the engine to turn on.

The old hand cranked toilet, I removed, and I was about to install an electric model. It is in situ, but not wired up.

It has a Force 10 Cozy Cabin heater, which runs on Diesel/Kerosene. I was going to remove this, as it would not be required in Turkey!!!!! And insert a holding tank for the waste from the toilet, before it got pumped into the sea.

The Galley has an Origo 3000 Low Pressure Alcohol Hob which runs on Methylated Spirits

The boat is a 4 berth, with a double cabin in front, and two single seats/beds in the salon.

There is a wind battery charger, and I noticed that there are also a couple of solar panels on the front of the boat, not tested.
There are also a few other Electrical items, which I have not tested. The radios, and depth sounder, for example.

Below decks could do with a refurbishment.
The White Canopy is made of Fibre Glass.
There is a significant amount of rust on the upper deck.
You can see where the engine was removed. The previous owner then painted it white. The engine is now back in situ.

WHY AM I SELLING THE BOAT??

I am now 79 years old, my knees are completely shot though with Arthritis, and bending, or even walking, is a problem. Sailing the Mediterranean is now definitely out!!!! Reluctantly it is now for sale.

Maryport Harbour and Marina has a camping site. They had a couple of wood ''glamping sheds', which is where I stayed whilst doing a bit of work on the boat. They may, or may not still be there, you will need to ask at the office.

The boat is currently locked with a padlock. I am thousands of miles away. I am currently living in Bodrum,Turkey, and the intention was to sail around the Med. This boat is sold as seen as is. Payment via Bank Transfer only, When funds are clear, I will then book a flight home to the U.K and you can take ownership of the boat.
