General brief description:
Elsie is a 65ft Trad all Steel Narrowboat, built by Pat Buckle in 1991. She is an ideal liveaboard for a couple, with plenty of storage space, 1.9m high ceilings, a well proportioned layout and lots of natural light. There are 4 berths consisting of a fixed double and a convertible settee. The spacious, well designed and equipped galley makes cooking a joy. The two side/roof hatches and large triangular front window make you feel right on the water even when you’re inside. Heating is by two solid fuel stoves and gas fired central heating. Hot water is by Alde heater and engine. Hull surveyed in March 2017 and repainted in June 2019: the sides have been brought to bare metal and epoxy painted, the bottom plate is blacked with bitumen. The external upper structure is entirely repainted in July in its original colours. All rust has been removed, rust-converter & 6 paint coats applied following the Craftmaster approach. BSS passed in May 2021, now due 29th May 2025.
As a professional handyman working on barges I’ve well taken well care of my own boat. I carried out many works, repairing, touching up, maintaining and refurbishing all interior, exterior and equipment, great and small. I’ll leave the boat thoroughly cleaned so you’ll be able to live comfortably aboard immediately.
Engine (&bay) — Mitsubishi K4D, 26HP, 4 cylinder, water cooled diesel engine - in sound condition and fully surveyed in December ’21. Only ran 100 hours the past 6 years. Hurth Marine Master gearbox. Centaflex coupling. Remote stern greaser. Bilge pump. Weed hatch.
Hull – Steel, 10mm base, 6mm sides and 5mm bow. A last hull survey of 2017 (available to read) confirms excellent current hull thicknesses (base 9.47±0.31 mm, sides 4.96±0.83 mm, deck 5.33±0.62 mm). Overplated in Nov 2013. Blacked every 2 years, epoxy painted sides & blacked bottom in June 2019, good for about another 2 to 4 years before having to crane out to touch up.
