Description

BMW 525i Sports Tourer (E39)

Selling our much loved E39. A great and enjoyable car to drive, really rewarding drivers car, very comfortable over long journey's and has been utterly reliable for us. We've owned the E39 for a short 18 months, but have thoroughly enjoyed it. The previous owner (based in the South West) had it since 2004 and cherished it. We are selling because unfortunately we live in N19 London, and while we have off street parking, we need a smaller town car, the BMW is simply too big for our needs.

MOT until June 2018

The E39 is the classic 5 series. This Tourer is a Sports model having the M series styling and improved suspension that came with the particular model. We have the original set of 3 keys. Each works as a memory key (so you can set seat and mirror details via the key). The seats are fully adjustable and electric, including thigh support. Unfortunately when I took the photo's I left the kick covers and DVD mounts in place (we have two children), however the seat condition underneath these items is fine.

Not so good points for the sake of complete honesty!
1. The CD changer no longer works, this had stopped working just before we bought the car. It is a BMW unit which can be bought second hand. We've used a tape converter into an iPhone (a few pounds on eBay)
2. The volume button on the audio unit is temperamental. The on/off works fine but we use the steering wheel controls for volume control (more convenient anyway)
3. The drivers door mirror was recently knocked (joys of driving in London), the outer shell is fine but an inner plastic fixing snapped, it is currently taped into place and is holding fine.
4. There are a few scrapes and scuffs around the car related to age, the paintwork is generally fine, however in the last few days it has picked up a scratch on the passenger side rear panel.
The split screen back window inner surround has become detached on one side and needs re-fixing into place. The split window opens and closes fine, you just have to be careful when closing.
5. The electric tailgate needs a little love and gentle persuasion at times to open, but otherwise fine.
6. It has the annoying intermittent airbag light issue. We had the same on a previous Rover 75 Tourer which shared the BMW 3 series frame. It is to do with a wiring loom located under the drivers seat and fine. The airbag itself was recently placed by a local BMW dealership as part of the international airbag recall programme (and the light is still intermittent!)

The car is 15 years old with a 121,000 miles on the clock. It is used regularly so that number will increase. It is a joy to drive, we are going to miss it, but with a little bit of attention you could have a really great classic BMW 5 series.

Cash on collection only. I am unable to deliver the car.
