Description

Up for sale is my Motobecane Type Record 5 speed road bike. This bike has been my training bike, used for regular training for the Mazda triathlon earlier this year. I have just bought a new training bike, so now have no need for this older one. So it's up for grabs now. It has been ridden in wet and dry conditions although I have taken good care of it and it has been well maintained (gear shifting and braking performance is accurate/responsive and consistent)- and all bearings have recently been regreased, wheels are true, no rust etc can be found around the steel frame and parts show minimal wear. Over the years I've managed to put a few scuffs in the paintwork, but you can hardly tell- there are only a few chips I've touched up, but it still looks very smart. The bike has all its original classy parts, but has also benefitted from some a few upgrades- the tyres are quality vintage Michelin and Barium ones, and the saddle is a smart (no rips) quilted one. Gear shifters, rear derailleur, chainset, pedals, brake calipers, brake levers, wheel hubs, handlebars and stem are all alloy, so the bike's total weight is nice and light. The reliable kit (Huret shifters and derailleurs, Solida double chainset, Mafac Racer brakes and Atom brake levers) all works predictably nicely and is from the same period as the frame, as well as being all French kit, like the frame. Here is a list of the other parts: BF bars, SR Custom stem, Regina Corsage 5 speed freewheel, with the rest being unbranded. I have renovated this 80s bike to make up what is now a very nice machine.
Size is 57cm/Medium, so suits riders of an average height. I will be sorry to see this bike go but I think it needs to go to someone who will get better use out of it.
If you have any questions feel free to send me a message and I will reply asap. NB I will be able to post, but in the UK only. If you want to go ahead with this, weight is approx 13kgs, but I have a reasonably priced courier (£13). Probably best to collect from my home in SE London, as it will also be a fair bit dismanted if it does get packaged up.
