Beautiful custom-built fixie/single speed

Description

'Rusty' is a very handsome, custom-built single speed bike. A great deal of work has gone into the steel frame to get the just the right look. Based on a late 70s/early 80s 23” ten speed racer, the frame has undergone some modification before all the paint was been stripped off. The rust look was achieved by chemical treatment and just the right amount of time before the oxidisation was halted. A long drawn out process to get things just right with further burnishing and colouring added before the whole thing was sealed under several coats of acrylic lacquer. Obviously the oxidisation is purely cosmetic and does not affect the structure or integrity of the frame. No 'branding' on the frame aside from a discreet portrait of the mighty Lord Cthulhu integrated into the rust on the seat tube.

Really lovely looking bike – the pics don't do it justice! Tried to keep it all fairly subtle and functional, without any overly pompous (or nickable) bits. Probably less than 100 miles since build; used mainly as a Sunday treat to go out to the local chippie! All parts new unless stated otherwise – the only other original part remaining from the donor bike is the quill stem, stripped and polished to a mirror finish. Top tube is a little over 55cm and seat tube a little over 56cm. I'm 6 foot and it suits me well, but there's lots of room for adjustment in saddle position and a good long seatpost so there's plenty of scope either way.

Wheels:
700 deep alloy rim Weinmann (approx £100), de-stickered and with a flip-flop rear cog, 18 tooth single speed freeweel not fixed. You can add another cog to opposite side of wheel if you wish to produce a true fixie or higher gearing.

Tyres:
Schwalbe Lugano skinnies with tan walls to match the bar tape

Chain: A very, very cool oval link Shimano NX01

Chainset:
Forged AL-6061-T6 alloy crank high polished black anodised finish.3mm alloy chainrings with CNC detail 175mm arms and 48tooth chain ring.

Bottom bracket:
110mm sealed square taper with allen key crank bolts.

Headset:
Black 1" with chrome spacer rings

Seat tube:
Simple black 'Zoom' seatpost

Seat:
Charge leather effect in brown to match the frame.

Stem:
As mentioned, original aluminium swan neck polished.

Bars:
Aluminium race bars cut down with a slash cut to follow the line of stem, polished and fitted upside down.

Bar tape:
Tan cork to match tyres

Brake lever:
Retro new Dia-Compe cable is grey outer casing front brake only. Weinmann polished finish brake pads. Probably still need additional time and adjustment to bed in so be careful initially.

I think that's about it If I can think of anything else I will add it. Rusty rides beautifully; very smooth and swift. The 48/18 gearing is just right so as not to be to hard to pull off from a stop but allows a fast consistent speed. You can of course add more speed with a 17 tooth cog, depends on the terrain you intend to ride on. It grabs attention and is totally unique - will be missed!

Asking £350 for this - no offers or opinions ta - substatially less than what I'd list it for on eBay – as low as I'll go otherwise wanna keep!. Available for collection/viewing in W3, on the border between Acton and Chiswick.
