Title: *Female Weekend Support Worker

Location: Birmingham, B28

Wage: Up to £17.00 gross per hour

Driver Essential? Preferable

Essential: Experience working with young people with additional needs, experience with personal care and confident in a swimming pool

Desirable: NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care or above

Start Date: ASAP

Days & Hours: Alternate weekends, 12.00pm to 5.00pm and school holidays

Family/Client Pets: None

About this client/child:

Ali aged 16 enjoys going for walks around local parks and the supermarket. He really likes swimming and taking part in all art and craft activities. He has a younger brother aged 5 who is very active. Ali has global delay and cerebral palsy following injuries caused at birth. He has significant learning, physical and communication difficulties and requires consistent support, intervention and medical care for all his support needs. Ali is mobile but has limited verbal communication. He makes use of some basic signs and communicates by vocalising and pointing. Ali also has multi allergy syndrome so any potential support worker would need to be competent or willing to complete training in the use of an Epi Pen.

Overview of role:

The Support Worker’s key role will be focused around enabling Ali to become more involved in community activities and help develop his opportunities and interests. You will also support Ali with all his daily activities in the home setting too. Ali has independent therapists working with him to establish programmes of ongoing support which you will have the opportunity to be part of. There is the option to work every weekend if this is preferred. The family are also looking for someone who can offer additional hours during the school holidays. The rates offered during the week are £15.00 and then £17.00 gross per hour during the weekends.

Who this job would suit:

This role will suit someone who is bubbly, fun-loving and able to motivate Ali. As mentioned, Ali has lots of allergies, so you really need to be on the ball and have good common sense when out and about. Finding someone who is confident in a swimming pool and happy to take Ali swimming is important. A Support Worker with their own car would be highly preferable.

What’s great about this job:

This is a great opportunity to be part of Ali’s journey and help promote his overall independence. Full mandatory and bespoke training can be provided.
