Description

Here are two great opportunities to exercise and grow your ‘artistic’ side!

1. Learn the ‘art’ of cartooning!
Do you have a sense of humor, creative and like to express yourself without having to get on a stage? Then cartooning is for you!
Learn the ‘art’ of cartooning, starting from the basics. Have ‘fun’ creating funny faces, funny figures, funny animals and funny scenes.

For? Anyone -- You’re never too old or young to draw cartoons, so give it a go! It’s a great stress-buster too!

You’ll learn the tips, tricks and techniques to draw;

- Shapes
- Expressions
- Characters (animals, objects included)
- Poses and postures
- Effects and Accessories
- Lighting and Perspective
- Coloring your cartoons
- Paper to digital

What material do I need for the first lesson?

Paper (white)
Pencils (HB and 2B)
Medium-nib marker (black)
Eraser

-------
2. Painting with pastels (soft pastel sticks and pastel pencils)

Pastels are a dry medium and high in pigment. The powdery effect of soft pastels are great for painting animals and birds – the subjects that adorn most of my ‘canvases’!

For? Beginners or artists wanting to experiment with pastels

Here you will learn about:

- Different pastel surfaces/papers
- Different forms of pastel and what works best with your intended style
- Drawing from reference and transferring to pastel paper
- Underpainting, layering and detailing

What material do I need for the first lesson?

I have range of material that you can test out prior to buying.

-------
Where and when? At your convenience. I am available most weekdays and some weekends. Classes are held at my home in Balham.

How much?
One-to-one: £20/hour
One-to-two: £15/hour/person
Trial lesson: £15/hour/person

Discounts are offered, if you want to do regular sessions or larger groups.

Who’s going to teach me?

An Artist. I love the act of creating something that can generate emotion – it can take the form of a painting, a cartoon or a simple illustration. I am originally from Sri Lanka, but now reside in Balham.
I have held many roles in the corporate sector, with my last being at a technology company running the channel business. In my first job as a graphics guy in a NGO, I drew stick figure cartoons, caricatures and animated e-cards on various social and environmental issues.
I studied art at the Vibhavi Academy of Fine Arts and then later continued with a renowned water-colorist, to fine-tune my watercolor and pastel work. I now work mainly with soft pastels and pastel pencils.
Cartooning continues to be a big passion and a medium of expression for me, and to share that with others gives me greater pleasure!
