We got this from from an antique dealer in Chatillon sur Seine, Burgundy, and have used it variously as a log bucket, fireside display, planter and occasionally as an attractive ice bucket or cooler for wine and beer.
It’s a big, hand crafted yellow copper, or cuivre jaune in French, hanging cauldron or pan and iron trivet stand that apparently came from the clearance of a local maison de maitre.
Dating to the early 1900s it was originally used for cooking over an open fire either stood on the hand forged iron tripod stand or hanging above the fire.
It’s a true antique, an artisan made piece with a hammered finish that is now worn but still sound, watertight and useable today as a great decorative French Kitchenalia display, planter, log bucket, champagne/ice bucket or even a sink basin perhaps…

In very good sound antique condition with wear and staining but no damage - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
In more or less as found condition having just had a wash - I’m sure this would polish up well if so required.
The cauldron is artisan crafted from hand hammered copper with copper riveted handle joints.
It’s a yellow copper, or cuivre jaune, that predominantly shines a gold colour rather than red copper colour that I initially thought was brass.
The copper surfaces are in a good antique condition with wear, knocks, staining and an attractive patina - see photos.
The interior has a worn, stained patina with some verdigris but is sound - see photos.
Still watertight.
The upper edge is rolled over an iron frame which is very sound.
There are strong bronze handle brackets with copper rivets.
The forged iron handle is rusted and worn but very strong and sound with no movement at the copper rivet joints.
The underside is worn and stained but sound with an intact seam visible - see photos.
I can find no maker’s mark.
The stand is heavy hand forged iron that is in very good condition but has wear and surface rust - see photos.
