Description

Antique Pulsocon / Macaura's Blood Massager. Museum Quality.

As used by Kings and Queens, I'm told, and also beloved of the more adventurous members of the female population circa 1900. One is on display in New York's 'Museum of Sex', and I believe also in the Welcome Trust Collection/London Science Museum.

Dates from 1895 - 1920.

I have never seen one for sale in such good condition, with all the original literature etc

As well as the Pulsotron itself, the box also contains a syringe and various unsavory looking medical devices (and the original rubber vibrating attachment, although you may want to replace that if you are planning on using it!)

It may also have a very interesting provenance. There is a card in the box bearing the following: 'Scrooby House, Bawtry, Yorks'. Scrooby House was historically the palace of the Archbishops of York. King John stayed there in 1212. King Henry VIII held Privy Council there in 1541. Pilgrim William Brewster held meetings at the house around 1606/07, before departing on the Mayflower to America.

Macuara had a less celebrated history. He turned out not to be a doctor at all, and found himself in a Parisian gaol in 1914, but he was still estimated to have made more than £60,000 from selling his devices, even booking out the Royal Albert Hall for a demonstration/sales pitch.
