Finance Assistant (Part-Time, 30 Hours)
Location: Hemel Hempstead
Salary: Circa 30,000 FTE (approx. 24k- 25k pro rata)
Contract: Permanent
Start: ASAP - immediate availability preferred
I'm currently supporting a long-standing client of ours in Hemel Hempstead who are looking to bring in a capable and hands-on Finance Assistant on a part-time basis (30 hours per week). This is a genuinely varied and busy role within a small, friendly finance team - ideal for someone who enjoys ownership, structure and keeping the numbers in excellent shape.
The organisation is looking for someone who can settle in quickly, work independently, and take responsibility for the day-to-day finance operations through to month-end.
The Role
You'll take the lead on maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the Head of Finance with all core bookkeeping duties, including:
Processing and posting invoices, expenses and payment requests
Recording income/expenditure and maintaining accurate ledgers
Managing direct debits, petty cash and staff expense claims
Running BACS payments and reconciling supplier statements
Handling the credit control process and resolving supplier/customer queries
Completing charge card and bank reconciliations
Preparing journals (accruals, prepayments, deferred income, etc.)
Reconciling balance sheet accounts
Supporting payroll checks and cost-centre allocations
Ordering office supplies and assisting with general finance admin
About You
We're looking for someone who's confident in a Finance Assistant/Bookkeeper role and happy working with minimal supervision.
Essential experience includes:
Strong background in bookkeeping or transactional finance
Good Excel/Microsoft Office skills
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to manage your workload and meet deadlines
Clear and professional communication skills
Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
Desirable (but not essential):
AAT qualification
Experience in not-for-profit, public sector or community-focused environments
QuickBooks or similar accounting system experience
