Description

‘Aileen helped me a huge amount with the structure of my essay, but her enthusiasm also made me realise that the process of writing essays is not as scary as it might seem! Her constructive feedback motivated me to write what I hope is a really good attempt at a challenging essay. Would highly recommend.’
— Katie, Adult Nursing

If essays and deadlines are stressing you out, just get in touch! Whether you need a hand with generating initial ideas; getting an effective structure into place; gathering further research; polishing your phrasing; or a final proofread, I can help.

Every student is different, so I'll let you tell me exactly what you'd like to focus on: that way we can best target our efforts for maximum results.

I will always offer you the quickest turn around I can manage, and am accustomed to working evenings.

I can work either online or in person. I’m based in Glasgow, but can help you wherever you are in the world. Most often, I will open your work in Google Docs, then make my edits in a bold colour, with any further necessary notes as comments on the right hand side.

In the first instance, I charge by the hour (£30/hour for one-to-one guidance or for a thorough read and substantial notes sent online). From there I can set a rate either by the hour or word count — depending on the level of detail you would like from me — as that dictates how quickly I can work (for instance, a purely technical proofread will be cheaper than a detailed edit). I also offer discounts for multiple hours (e.g. £50/2 hours) and am open offer a pair/group discount if you and a classmate contact me together.

You'll find more about my ethos and methodologies on my Instagram and FB pages (just search for Aileen McKay, English Tutor — I'm not allowed put links here!). I also post lots of study and healthy living tips to help keep you on track while you're working independently.

For further information, please do message me through Gumtree, or text me on 07522 794 573.

Together we can get you to your personal best. Looking forward to working with you soon!

Feedback from previous clients:

‘5 stars proofreading. Aileen gave me so much positive feedback also on how to restructure some paragraphs and helped me a lot in improving my academic English as I'm not an English native speaker.’
— Alessia, Comparative Literature Masters degree student

‘As I write another essay I find myself thinking of what Aileen recommends when I try to organise my thoughts. She explains that we can start out by writing what we know about the subject in the same way that we would speak to someone about it. She has shown me how to break down a subject and discuss it using a logical sequence […].’
— Miriam, Adult Nursing

'Aileen helped me tremendously with finishing my undergrad dissertation! She was extremely thorough and gave me excellent notes to help me re-draft for the final submission. She is very passionate about literature, and a great tutor.'
— Jo, Scottish Literature Honours degree student

‘I couldn't recommend Aileen highly enough! She is an extremely thorough, supportive, and positive proofreader. One of the most helpful aspects for me was that she gives really insightful feedback and constructive criticism that is never overwhelming — if anything, her help and guidance made my stress levels dissipate enormously. It's really useful to have a fresh pair of eyes look over something you've been staring at for 17 hours non-stop, as it picks up on weaker areas that you haven't been able to identify because you're so tired — definitely get in touch with her, she'll save you so many all-nighters!’
— Katharine, Comparative Literature Masters degree student

My bio — last autumn I secured my Masters degree (with Distinction) in Comparative Literature from the University of Glasgow. Having studied such an inherently interdisciplinary course, I now have the ability to dip into a wide range of fields, from literature to philosophy, from politics to history, from psychology to education. In terms of my own work, I have written for the Polish magazine, Square.PL, and have had some poetry published with From Glasgow to Saturn and Quotidian. I have also guest curated a reading list for the feminist publishing initiative, For Books’ Sake.
