Trainee Smart Meter Installer Programme (Fixed-term contract until December 2020)
£17,998 during training, increasing to £30,096 once fully trained and loyalty bonus of up to £4,500 if you stay with us until December 2020.

At SSE we are continually looking for opportunities to develop and enhance our training, to improve the quality, skills and qualification we are providing for our employees.  This is why we are now incorporating an apprenticeship within our Smart Trainee Programme, enabling our trainees to gain the technical competence to perform the role of a Dual Fuel Smart Meter Operative allied to a Government recognised qualification.

This is one of the biggest jobs around. The UK has rarely seen an energy saving project as important or ambitious as the Smart Metering Programme. By 2020, we will install 7 million meters. What you’ll do as a Smart Meter Installer

Fitting Smart Meters in our customers’ homes, you’ll be the friendly face of SSE. Making visits in your well-equipped van, you’ll meet all kinds of people. You’ll have targets based on the number of appointments booked in and we’ll give you the time to complete every job safely and answer every customer’s questions properly.  We operate flexibly to meet customer demands, this may occasionally require you to work away from home as part of your role. With us, your customer service skills are just as important as your technical ability. And if you need any help yourself, our dedicated support team is just a call away. 

What we are looking for

This is a customer-facing role, so it’s important that your people skills are just as strong as your technical ability. We’re looking for trainees who:
are keen to learn in a technical environment
are not enrolled in another apprenticeship or government funded education programme
demonstrate a high degree of safety awareness and have some  IT skills
hold a current driving licence with a maximum of 6 points
have GSCE in English and Maths, grade A-C (or equivalent)
ideally have some experience of working directly with customers
We’ll need proof of your qualifications to progress your application, therefore please ensure you attach the required certificates before submission.
