Our 4 year Apprentice Programme is designed to launch potential young engineers into the world of Volvo Construction Equipment, and is recognised as the best grounding a person can get in this industry in the UK.
As an Apprentice Engineer, you will be working with the internationally recognised and market-leading Volvo Construction Equipment brand, this Apprenticeship will give you the skills to grow your ability and confidence. Recruitment takes place through the first half of the year with an interview, followed by a visit to the College during which there is a further interview and aptitude tests, as well the opportunity to see the College and meet the tutors. The programme is a blend of work-based experience, online training and residential training at the College.
At the College, you will study and work alongside Apprentices from other companies and as you are representing SMT GB, would be expected to achieve the very best results you can. The format and content of the course will instil a positive attitude to safety while equipping you for your career with us in the construction equipment industry.

- GCSE or equivalent passes in Maths and English
- Be aged 16 or above at the time of starting employment
- Team work, initiative and self-motivation
- Communication and problem solving mind-set
- Basic computer skills
- High standards and attention to detail
- Responsible, reliable, honest and trustworthy
- Possess a mechanical and practical ability
- Past relevant mechanical experience
- GCSE or equivalent passes in Science and/or Design & Technology
- Hold a full driving license
- Residing within a ten mile radius of the Depot
