Support worker: children, youth groups and young adults
Do you want to work with children and young people who have support needs? This is an opportunity to make a real difference doing one or more of the following in Midlothian:
.Support work at youth groups, Friday afternoons and Saturdays
.One-on-one support for children over weekends
.Support for young people living independently for the first time.
We are looking for people who are great communicators and who know how to have fun, people who are patient, practical and committed to The Action Group's values of equality, inclusion and opportunity for all.
No experience or formal qualifications are necessary, but some experience of working with young people in an educational or care setting would be an advantage.
Our Youth Groups are for children and young adults with additional support needs to help them lead fulfilling, inclusive lives by broadening their experiences through having fun and enjoying being part of the community. The role may involve outdoor or indoor sports, arts and crafts and organising events and transport. You must have an understanding and interest in young people and their needs and an enthusiastic and positive approach to working with them.
Providing weekend support for children means working closely with the family to support our young service users to have fun, take part in activities and pursue their goals. You need to be energetic, creative and have great attention to detail.
Supporting young people in transition includes working with younger adults who are taking steps to greater independence, often living in their own tenancies for the first time. We support our service users in pursuing their goals, and also with practical things such as taking care of themselves and their homes. We tailor the support we provide according to the service user’s needs, so the job can include accompanying service users on outings or to go shopping and also lending a hand with keeping track of money, medication and schedules.
