Job Description:

Primary, GCSE & A-level Tutors ~ Tutor Doctor Surrey

Tutoring Primary, GCSE and A-level subjects to local students.

Tutoring will take place in the student’s home (we currently have assignments in Woking but we need tutors all over Surrey in the lead-up to exam season). You will get to know the student and their family, build a plan with them, and deliver effective tutoring sessions for around an hour and a half - usually once a week. The work is interesting and varied, and while you will develop your own approach, a typical Tutor Doctor tutoring session can involve:

  • Catching-up on progress, reviewing any homework you have set
  • Discussing classwork and school homework
  • Exploring new topics covered in the class or needing attention
  • Practising topics already prioritised
  • Building and adapting your plan of action to meet the desired academic goals
  • Planning revision
  • Practising exam techniques

This post would suit:

  • An undergraduate or post-graduate student, needing credible work experience, who deserves to be able to earn good money at the same time (students often find that tutoring reinforces their own learning).
  • A teacher or lecturer who knows that there is more to educating than just delivering the curriculum, and who would like to be able to give students the one-to-one attention they deserve.
  • A successful professional, wanting to give something back, who would appreciate the satisfaction of helping others succeed.

For example, here is a selection of current or recent assignments:

  • Year 7 Maths near Woking, 1xhour per week
  • Year 10 GCSE English & Maths in Englefield Green, 1xhour per week
  • English Camberley

Location

Tutoring usually takes place in the student's home (which could be anywhere in Surrey), but we have immediate assignments in Woking, Englefield Green and Camberley. We also work in some schools, and we have a dedicated online tutoring platform where remote tutoring is required (or can be justified as an effective supplement to home visits).

Note: all tutoring is one-to-one

Qualifications

Primary Tutors : Minimum of GCSE Maths & English grade A. A teaching qualification preferred.

GCSE Tutors : Minimum of A-level grade A in chosen subject

A-level : Minimum of 1 year of degree course completed in chosen subject

Experience

At least one year of tutoring or teaching preferred, but we welcome applications from people new to tutoring as we will provide guidance and support for the right candidates.

Key Skills

  • Must be comfortable using our tutors' website (for appointments / reports)
  • Must be comfortable dealing with customers in person and on the telephone
  • Good command of written and spoken English
  • Preferably have own vehicle

Person Specification

The ideal tutor is:

  • Personable ~ able to build rapport, while earning respect and trust
  • Professional ~ reliable, punctual, consistent
  • Generous ~ enjoys helping others, takes satisfaction in their success
  • Organised ~ able to schedule, prepare and structure work
  • Committed ~ passionate about learning, and sees things through

Empathic ~ able to adapt their approach to suit differing learning styles

Hours of Work

Variable, to suit your diary

Rate of Pay
