We are seeking a part-time, seasonal general assistant to help with the daily running of our 21 bed hostel from April to September. The position involves manning reception & cleaning the hostel, 80 hours per month at NLW. Possibility of casual work over winter.

Inveraray Hostel is a small not-for-profit business offering informal, sociable tourist accommodation with high cleanliness standards & ethical values in a friendly environment.

As General Assistant, you will be responsible for opening & closing the hostel, making bookings, taking payments, answering email/phone enquiries, greeting guests, setting out breakfast, providing information about the local area, cleaning the hostel, & helping to maintain the grounds. You will be required to spend the occasional night at the hostel, 'on call'/available in case of emergencies. An easy, pleasant position for the right person.

Working reception hours will be 7.45am - 10am or 3.30pm - 9.30pm.

Cleaning hours usually start at 10am, finishing around 12.30pm (variable).

Stay-overs are from reception closing time (9.30pm) until the next member of staff is on duty (7.45am).

Your part-time hours will be 80 per month, split over 4 - 6 days, working 16 - 23 hours per week, as business demands.

More info will be provided on application.

This is a responsible, key-holding position: you will be relied upon to unlock the hostel & open reception on time. You must be alert, punctual & reliable.

Skills: You will need to be competent with computers, cash handling, fairly fit & able (cleaning involves making bunk beds), with high cleanliness & hygiene standards, as well as an eye for detail. You must understand the importance of guest safety & security.

Character: This role involves interacting with guests in a friendly manner so you need to be confident, sociable & mature with an approachable demeanor. We are a tiny team, just two joint managers & one assistant (you). We shall be working alone sometimes, & working together sometimes. We'd like to meet & work alongside a good-humoured, trustworthy person that we can rely upon wholly.

It is desirable that you possess some local knowledge, an empathy with tourists/travellers & experience in hospitality &/or customer service.

It is practical that you live locally as this is not a live-in position.

You will need to be able to start at the beginning of April.

Many thanks for taking an interest in our vacancy. We hope it appeals to you & look forward to receiving your application soon.

Successful candidates will be contacted by 18th March & invited to an informal interview at Inveraray Hostel.

When applying for this position, please tell us why this position would be good for you, & why you are suitable for the position. CVs without cover letters will be ignored. No photos needed - we don't care what you look like!
