Sous Chef / Assistant Head Chef ‘live out’- Bentley Hampshire
The Star at Bentley is looking for a chef to join their team and help continue to build the reputation of this beautiful country pub. All our food is homemade and we specialise in great food for a reasonable price. We have been running pubs for 15 years and cook everything to recipes that we have successfully used in these pubs. The applicant will be required to support our head chef ‘Becs’ at the pub and fill the role of sous chef the majority of the time. The applicant will be required to run the kitchen in Becs absence and should have experience of running a busy kitchen. At this time we cook for around 400 - 450 covers a week. The applicant will be required to cook our main menu from recipes that we provide and will have the opportunity to be creative on our ever changing specials board.
We work in split shifts except for Sunday when you would be required to work 8.30am -7.30pm. The average working week is around 45 hours however expect to work longer hours through December.
We operate very much as a team and require everyone in the kitchen to muck in and do all aspects of the job however the majority of your role will comprise of prepping the menu, specials and desserts and, during service, working the hot side of the kitchen as well as overseeing the chefs on the cold side. The position does demand that you can speak fluent English, have a brain that works practically and quickly so as to read tickets and be able to cook under time pressure whilst producing delicious food. We are very strict on Health and Safety – using the right coloured boards for food preparation – temperature probing all our dishes to make sure they are cooked correctly for the customer – dating and storing food etc. We have a five star health and safety rating which we are very proud of and is important to modern business.
The position is ‘Live out’ and the successful applicant must have a car / motorbike and live within the area so that split shifts are not a problem. We are five minutes from both Farnham and Alton.
We are looking for applicants looking to earn between £25000 and £30000 a year plus tips. You will required to work weekends and will have two clear days off in the week. You will receive standard paid holiday of 4 weeks per year plus bank holidays if worked.
