Open from morning until late, bar(su) operates Unio Pizza, the Fries Van and our Costa Coffee unit within the bars area. The Catering Supervisor will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the services and outlets, ensuring we deliver to the highest standard we can, as well as supervising and developing the a student staff team. The post holder will need to have excellent communication skills, preferably in a commercial kitchen setting, and we'd love you to have experience of supervising staff.

You will be working as part of our wider Venues team, responsible for the management and operation of our multi-million turnover bars and gig function, with the LCR and Waterfront part of our business. Your work will directly feed into the mission of the students' union in representing the 14,000 students of UEA, as well as providing excellent service, food and drinks.

Responsibilities and Duties

Key responsibilities will include, amongst other tasks:

  • Run different food and hot beverage outlets, supervising the team in accordance with policies and procedures as set out in Safer Food Better Business (SFBB).
  • Organise/Take bookings for events via email, ensuring we have stock and staff for these events.
  • Manage, maintain and order stock - To maintain records of wastage, temperatures deliveries and other controls as set out in SFBB/HACCAP.
  • Ensure excellent customer service at all times ensuring agreed service standards are met by yourself and your team.
  • Assist your line manager in developing structures and procedures to ensure that measures and standards are being observed and met by your team.
  • Ensure that all legal requirements for Venues Catering (e.g. Licensing, food hygiene, health and safety) are enforced, that records are kept and are up-to-date. Ensure that the kitchen and premises are kept clean in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • To ensure consistency levels are met at all times within the department.
  • Assist line manager with rotas and delivery of labour budget and service levels on shift.
  • Assist with appraisals and performance reviews of colleagues, advance individual development plans and carry out remedial training as required.
  • Assist in the planning and running of recruitment & training events.
  • Ensure that the procedures relating to the handling and security of cash and stock are adhered to.
  • Assist in developing menu ideas using analysis of stock results and help identify where improved margins can be achieved within the budget.
  • Assist line manager with rotas and delivery of labour budget and service levels on shift.

Qualifications and Skills

We'd love to hear from people with Food Hygiene Level 2 qualifications, though this isn't essential and we'll provide training to the right candidate.

Ideally you'll have experience of commercial kitchens, supervising teams of staff and working in a front of house environment. We also need you to have excellent communication skills and we'd like you to be able to use Microsoft Office competently.
