Weekend home carer for elderly, central Bath man with mobility difficulties £13.50PAYE/£15.12S/E
We are helping Don recruit a small team of personal assistants to help him four times each day. Most shifts are now filled but there remain some weekend shifts that we are yet to fill.
Shifts are between one and two hours long and the timings are: 8:30am, 1pm and 7pm
Don is 92 years old and lives with his wife on Henrietta Gardens in Bath. Don has two children, with his daughter living nearby. Up until now, the family have been providing much of the support.
Don was an engineer working for the gas board. He likes adventure books. Hates soap operas but likes quizzes. He and his wife used to have a caravan in Lyme Regis up until about 3 years ago. Don had a significant stroke in September and was discharged home 15th November withthe support of an agency. However this has not really worked out well, because of the variability of the staff and also the timings of the visit so they have decided to recruit their own team of carers
In addition to the the effects of his stroke, Don has arthritis in his knees which makes it difficult for him to bend his knees and impossible for him to weight bear. There are exercises which Don is doing to improve his flexibility, but generally the main thing is just to make sure that there is enough time for him.
Don needs support transferring, for which he uses a mobile hoist. There is a possibility that a stand-assist may be used in future, and there are OTs looking into this. However for now, a hoist is the way transfers are made.
