Volunteers urgently needed!

Friends is an exciting volunteer opportunity to provide company to older people in North East Glasgow. This project operates as part of the award winning Scottish charity Food Train which is aimed at helping frail older people struggling to do their shopping.

Friends is a befriending project aimed at providing companionship to older people who are socially isolated and would benefit from a one to one match with a volunteer.
Volunteers will be matched with an older person either in their own home or to go out in the community dependent upon individual circumstances.

Training and support will be provided and reasonable out of pocket expenses paid.
Volunteer Befrienders will have to apply for a PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups, which Food Train pay the costs for). You'll need 3 forms of ID to support the PVG application:

•1 x photographic form of ID eg passport, photo card driver’s licence
•1 x address confirmation eg bank statement, utility bill, pensions or benefits letter which must be dated within the last three months
•1 x other form of ID eg birth certificate, National Insurance card etc.

We're looking for individuals who can commit to 1 or 2 hours once per week to visit with an older person in the North East of the City either in their home or out in their local community as well as join group outings once per month. Ideally volunteers will be good listeners, talkative, friendly and have a caring nature.

If this sounds like something you'd like to get involved in then please get in touch!
