About Riverford
We’re mad about organic veg. It’s at the core of everything we do. We love to grow it, pack it into boxes and deliver it to customers’ doorsteps around the UK. This takes a lot of brilliant people, with a range of skills and knowledge.

Riverford began in 1986, with a few acres of veg, a wheelbarrow and a beaten up 2CV for deliveries. We’ve grown into a successful e-commerce business, with four farms, three packhouses, a fleet of vans and drivers, a wholesalers, butchery, organic restaurant and pub. We employ people across many areas including IT, Logistics, Sales, HR, Finance and Marketing (and more besides).

Our culture and values set us apart from other businesses. Riverford is a friendly, informal place to work, with a passionate, entrepreneurial spirit. We’re committed to providing a fair deal for growers, customers and staff.

What you’ll be doing
This role is all about taking Riverford on the road – getting out to meet Riverford customers and taking our famous veg-centric Pop Up Feasts and Master Veg classes to venues around the country.
You will be will be part of the team at our award-winning restaurant, The Field Kitchen, in Devon, but will spend a good part of your time cooking in anything from village halls to yurts. This is a great opportunity for a chef who has a passion for quality ingredients, to work with locally sourced organic produce and veg straight from the fields, to work in a team of like-minded people and to be agile and inventive in new venues with new types of event.

Our food is simple, but really tasty. Your dishes should be a showcase for the best seasonal veg available; we want our customers to be experiencing new and different ways of using veg and be inspired to go away and try cooking something different themselves.

You will use the experience you have already gained in professional kitchens to prepare food and cook dishes which fit with Riverford’s & The Field Kitchen style of cooking as well as ensuring the kitchen areas you work in remain clean and compliant with health and safety and hygiene.

This role requires an adaptable chef, ideally with at least Sous Chef experience, who is happy to travel, can cope with the pressures and logistics of catering on the road, in new kitchens and staying in hotels. You will be part of the Field Kitchen restaurant team, but will work closely with our events team who organise the events around the country, provide kitchen support and front of house.

The Pop Up Feasts are communal dining experiences and we love chefs who are bright and personable, that are happy to talk to our customers about the food they have eaten and even provide a recipe or two.

When you’re not on the road, or taking a well earned break, you’ll be at The Field Kitchen…

A typical day for a Riverford Chef…
We cater for each service like an individual dinner party, twice a day. First thing we check who’s coming and design a menu for the guests. We choose the best of the seasonal veg coming off the farm and the chef discuss how they would like to prepare each dish for each course.

The chefs pick most of the fresh herbs and some of Riverford’s more experimental crops from The Field Kitchen Garden – our polytunnel and allotment area 50m from the kitchen - and the herb beds surrounding the restaurant.

We prepare and time our cooking to serve our set menu banquet style to all our guests at the same time ensurin
g that our veg reaches them at the absolute peak of perfection and inspires them to replicate the dishes at home – hopefully with Riverford veg boxes! Be prepared to share your recipes with a lot of people…
Sometimes you’ll be catering for special customer events at the farm – such as our monthly veg feasts or local collaborations with foragers, food heroes and local brewers or winemakers - or even Riverford pop ups around the South West.
