Purpose and Aims of the role

Aberlour have a new service based in Ross-shire called Sustain and we are looking for volunteer befrienders to work with children and families. Could you spend regular time with a child or family, sharing a hobby or activity on a fortnightly basis? If you have a genuine interest in the wellbeing of children and families and live in Ross-shire we would love to hear from you.

What will I be doing?

• Making a difference in a child or young person’s life and their families
• Spending regular time with a child or young person and their parents/carers
• Supporting them when difficulties arise
• Sharing an activity/hobby
• Attending activities
• Completing a diary after each visit
• Attending regular support sessions
• Contributing to service assessments through support.

What skills can I bring to this role?

What qualities do I need?

• To have a non-judgemental attitude and approach to working with children and young people and their families

• Be enthusiastic, flexible, committed and patient.

When will I be needed?

• Befrienders will spend a 2-4 hours each week/fortnight depending on the need of the child/young person and their family
• A minimum of 1 year’s commitment is required for this role.

Additional Information
Due to Health and Safety requirements you must be at least 18 years of age to undertake this volunteering role.

For all roles involving regulated work with children and/or protected adults, Aberlour will require the applicant to submit a PVG Scheme Record or a PVG Scheme Record Update application. This opportunity is subject to the completion of satisfactory references and successful registration on the PVG Scheme.
