Gumtree Licensed Breeder Verification: How-To Guide

To support animal welfare and meet industry standards, Gumtree requires high-volume sellers in the Pets for Sale category to verify their official licence status. Successful verification removes your listing cap and adds a Licensed Breeder Badge to your account, helping build trust with potential buyers.

Who Needs to Verify?

You must complete verification if you intend to post:

  • More than two animals (or litters) in the Dogs category within a rolling 12-month period
  • More than two animals in the Other Pets categories within a rolling 12-month period

When you attempt to post a third animal, you’ll automatically be prompted to begin the verification process.

Verification steps

Verification is completed by sending your documentation directly to the Gumtree Pets Onboarding Team via email.

Step 1: Gather your documents and information

Prepare a copy of your valid licence along with the following required details:

Step 3: Gumtree verification and review

  1. Data Cross-Check: Gumtree’s pet category specialists verify your details against the public register held by the relevant local authority or council.
  2. Account History Check: Your account is reviewed for any past policy violations or animal welfare concerns.
  3. Approval: If your licence is valid and your account is compliant, you will be approved. Verification typically takes up to three working days.

What Happens Next?

Once your account is verified:

  • Your Listing Cap Is Removed: You may list more than two animals in the categories covered by your licence within a 12-month period.
  • Licensed Breeder Badge Added: Your profile and all eligible listings will display a Licensed Breeder Badge, making it clear to buyers that you are a legitimate, verified seller.
