Freshers Freebies with Gumtree

So to make life a little easier, we’ve rounded up all the uni essentials. What’s more… not only will you be saving a few pennies with the freshers freebies but you’re also helping the planet!

Out of the 1.8M of Under 35s who are students (GB TGI) 1 in 3 are living on less than £50 a month after paying for essential spending.^* You’ve worked hard to get here, but times are tougher than ever. With no money to spare for necessities like basic furniture, clothing and study materials, Gumtree can be a good place to start your search, not only for second hand finds but freebies too. There are over 7,000 items listed for free right now** and the category’s popularity has soared as times have gotten tougher for all.

With the soaring costs of living it can feel pretty impossible to fulfil your potential at university and make the most of your study experience. That’s where our books category can come in handy. With hundreds of thousands of students graduating every year, you may find your course materials listed for a fraction of the price. More than 40,000 ads were listed in our music, movies and books category in both July and August.*** So what are the chances you’ll find at least one item you’re after… pretty strong we’d say. And when the time comes for your cap toss, you can pay it forward by listing them for the next group of freshers.

With more people going back to work in the office, those wfh desks are up for grabs. Desks and office furniture can be expensive, and when you only need them for a few years there’s really no need to buy new. There were over 200,000 searches in our ‘desk’ category on Gumtree over July and August 2022 so we’re not the only ones who think so.***

But let’s be real, you’ll be spending most of your time in bed – catching up on sleep from all those hours in… lectures. Depending on the space you have to spare, you can find single beds, double beds, heck even king size beds on Gumtree (good for you!). But if like us, you like a piece of furniture with dual purpose, there are plenty of giant bean bags too.
