Peugeot 206
Launched in 1998, the Peugeot 206 has been a popular small hatchback for years due to its smart, racy looks. It’s no longer sold new in the UK, so the youngest models on the market date to 2011. Despite its age, the 206 offers fun handling and a sporty feel. The hottest version of this hatch is the range-topping 206 GTi. For lower insurance costs though, you’ll want to opt for one with a smaller engine – or if you’re after smart looks, you could seek out the stylish coupe cabriolet version, the 206 CC. They all exclusively run petrol engines, but the later models offer reasonably good fuel economy.
