About {{ makeName }}

There are few more iconic and recognisable identifiers of style and luxury than the famous three-pointed star logo that features on every Mercedes-Benz. Such admirable brand recognition is testament to the remarkable achievements of an esteemed automaker that's consistently produced the sort of sleek, expertly crafted cars that exemplify German engineering at its very best.

That famous logo dates back to 1926 when two of Germany's best-regarded and successful motor companies, Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft and Benz & Cie, merged. Together DMG and Benz & Cie comprised two of the world's earliest motor car makers: Karl Benz created the world's first petrol powered vehicle, the Benz Patent Motorwagen, in 1886 and Gottlieb Daimler followed hot on his heels with with a petrol powered stagecoach just a year later.

Innovation has remained a key facet of the Mercedes-Benz brand throughout its history and its luxurious, carefully designed cars have often led the field when it comes to the application of cleverly integrated technology. But Mercedes-Benz also has a knack for understatement and refinement and its most noteworthy cars - of which there are many - have expertly balanced technology with elegant design and poised refinement. Mercedes cars tend to wear their gadgetry lightly.

Such characteristics are in evidence in the current range, especially in the case of the acclaimed S-Class, a saloon many consider to be the final word in automotive luxury thanks to a its near-faultless blend of advanced technology, precision engineering and plush yet unfussy styling. These traits run through a Mercedes line-up that encompasses classic hatchbacks, saloons and roadsters as well as a growing collection of SUVs and crossovers.

MERCEDES-BENZ C-CLASS SALOON

It should come as no surprise that Mercedes has produced one of the best compact executive saloons around - it's a market the brand is virtually synonymous with - and the current C-Class doesn't disappoint. The C-Class does most of what you'd expect a Mercedes saloon to do - inside the interior is well-made and beautifully finished, it's spacious, classy and equipped with all manner of technology - even if the ride is slightly less refined than some if its rivals. It's also surprisingly cheap to run with some models returning over 70mpg and CO2 emissions of just 103g/km.

MERCEDES-BENZ S-CLASS SALOON

Widely considered to be the finest luxury saloon on the market, there's no denying that Mercedes has pulled out all the stops to create an exceptionally comfortable, immaculately refined and comprehensively equipped car. The sumptuous, library quiet cabin boasts unparalleled amounts of space and can be further enhanced by opting for an L model with individually reclining seats. And if that's not luxurious enough you can even opt to equip the seats with hot and cool massage functions.

MERCEDES-BENZ GLA

The GLA is a small SUV that goes up against the Audi Q3 and BMW X1 but is in fact a rather different beast. Effectively a beefed up hatchback, the GLA is based on the A-Class and a fair bit smaller that most of its rivals. If your main priority is space and practicality you might be better off looking elsewhere. Nonetheless, the GLA is a smart, well built crossover that offers the best fuel economy in its class.

MERCEDES-BENZ SLK

The handsome SLK competes with the BMW Z3, Porsche Boxster and Audi TT for the crown of best German roadster, a battle that boasts some seriously impressive cars. While Mercedes' offering is somewhat lacking in the thrills and spills department compared to the Z3 and Boxster, it's probably the most luxurious of the bunch and will suit those who prefer a classier, more refined take on the German roadster.

MERCEDES-BENZ M-CLASS

The evolution of the M-Class is an interesting reflection of the development of the wider luxury SUV market. The M-Class was a pioneer of the form but now faces stiff competition from the likes of BMW and Porsche in a market that has become hugely popular and seriously important for most premium car brands. As a result the current M-Class is more focused on upmarket refinement and space than genuine 4x4 performance. It's a good option if your priority is comfort and space but isn't as racy and fun to driva as the Porsche Cayenne or Macan.
