About {{ makeName }}

Part of the sprawling General Motors corporation, Chevrolet has traditionally been the multinational's flagship American brand along with Cadillac and Buick. Its presence in other parts of the world has been fitful but recent years did see a brief attempt to establish a stronger Chevrolet brand presence in Europe.

This short-lived campaign largely rested on the rebadging of existing Daewoo models like the Matiz, an exercise that was accompanied by the tagline "Daewoo has grown up enough to become Chevrolet" and looked to establish Chevrolet as GM's principal economy brand in Europe, a move that would also have entailed Opel and Vauxhall shifting up market to make way.

Needless to say, the continued prevalence of budget Vauxhalls in the UK market tells its own story. GM's grand plan didn't really work out and all Chevrolets were withdrawn from Europe with the exception of the Corvette and Camaro in 2013.

The legacy of GM's Chevrolet / Daewoo rebranding exercise is a range of Chevrolets that can still be encountered in the UK's used car marketplace. Cars like the Matiz, Lacetti and Kalos never really felt like authentic Chevys but shouldn't necessarily be dismissed, especially at rock bottom second hand prices.

Gumtree's Top Chevrolet Models

CHEVROLET MATIZ

Chevrolet's Matiz ticks many of the most important city car boxes - it's suitably tiny (great for parking), highly economical and smartly styled. It's also pretty decent in less expected areas - the drive is reasonably peppy and refinement is improved while the cabin is surprisingly roomy for such a compact car. On the downside the interior feels a bit cheap and it's likely to struggle on the open road.

CHEVROLET LACETTI

Chevrolet's budget hatchback is a well-priced considering its ample proportions, giving you the same sort of space as a large-ish hatchback such as the Ford Focus for the price of a supermini. Practicality is therefore pretty good with plenty of room in the cabin and boot. The Lancetti is also prettier than many might have expected thanks to styling by Italdesign. Unfortunately performance is a bit disappointing and the ride lacks refinement.

CHEVROLET KALOS

Another rebadged Daewoo, the Kalos is a small hatchback that should suit small families, especially since the Chevrolet version is available in a three-door model. It's compact which is handy for parking, affordably priced and cheap to run although its budget credentials are evident in the quality of the interior and the noisy ride.

CHEVROLET TACUMA

The Tacuma is a compact MPV that competes with the likes of Renault's Scenic. It offers plenty of practicality with bags of luggage space available when the back seats are removed and clever storage throughout. It beats many of its competitors on price but lags behind class leaders in the quality stakes due to bland styling, cheap interiors and underwhelming driver appeal.

CHEVROLET CORVETTE STINGRAY C7

More American than pecan pie, the butch new Corvette Stingray may look as incongruous as an NFL quarterback on a soccer pitch when lined up against European supercars from the likes of Ferrari and Porsche but that's all part of its brash appeal. The Corvette's driving experience is entirely commensurate with its looks: the all-new 6.2-litre V8 delivers fearsome speed and endless entertainment. Subtle? No. Exhilarating? Hell Yeah!
