Want to use your summer to do something life changing? Experience another culture? Share and exchange ideas and skills with staff and local volunteers where we work? Want to boost your CV by learning a lot, working in a team and gaining lots of new skills? Want the opportunity to stay involved and help RUN a charity when you return from projects over seas? Then look no further....You can be part of Tenteleni!
Tenteleni is an entirely volunteer-run charity that supports UK university students travelling to placements in sub-Saharan Africa to engage in cultural exchange and skill sharing in a variety of formal and non-formal settings, including schools, communities and children's homes. We aim to form and maintain long and lasting relationships with people and organisations within the placements and the countries we operate in, to ensure a sustainable positive impact.
As a volunteer you might
Work as teaching assistants
Assist with English language learning
Work on Youth Issues such as self esteem, bullying, careers, relationships and Sexually Transmitted Infections (inc. HIV, except in Zanzibar, where this subject is not covered).
Facilitate and support extra curricular activities such as sport, debating, young enterprise, and talent and cultural shows Get involved in the wider community
Although volunteers have constant support from their Project Coordinators, they require a high level of initiative and creativity to develop projects and activities within their placement, plan their day and get involved in the placement and wider community.
You will also be supported locally before you depart with fundraising activities and training.
We still have LIMITED places left on our KENYA, SOUTH AFRICA and TANZANIA projects.
Kisumu (Kenya): Experience the bustle of Kenya's third largest city, with a mixture of formal and non-formal placements (volunteering in primary schools and in a centre for street children) that will allow you to get to know several different organisations and meet children from different backgrounds.

Pemba (Tanzania): the optimal graduate travel experience: see a side to Tanzania that is not privy to the average tourist, live and work with our local partners and be totally immersed in the culture of the WaPemba (people of Pemba). This 10 week project is scheduled in the autumn making it perfect for graduates who want a unique volunteering experience.

Barberton (South Africa): one of our newer projects, set in a small town where you will play an integral part in building relationships with our local partners. You will be volunteering in one of three local primary schools and you will be staying in a local homestay and have a ideal opportunity to get to know a different side to South Africa.
