Umu serves timeless Japanese cuisine in the heart of Mayfair. From the moment guests pass their hand over the small recess in the wedge timber and bronze door they are immersed into an opulent Kyoto style. It is an intimate, sophisticated space.
Executive Chef, Yoshinori Ishii, prides himself on the provenance and integrity of ingredients. He uses both traditional Japanese produce, as well as locally sourced ingredients, to create innovative Kyoto influenced cuisine. Ishii-san is involved in every aspect of the Umu experience; as a keen potter he makes many of the dishes guests dine off, he also enjoys fishing - working closely with suppliers to ensure only the freshest fish is used.
He has a rare eye for artful display as well as flavour, incorporating his expertise as not only a chef but also a skilled artist into each dish.
