Oxjam CHISWICK require a MARKETING Co-ordinator.

...here's abit about Oxjam...

Oxjam Chiswick is part of Oxfam's National Music Festival - this year there are 47 towns and cities throughout the UK from the Shetland Isle's to Torquay taking part. Hundreds of thousands of people will come to an Oxjam event in 2012 making it the UK's largest music festival.

Each Oxjam holds a series of events culminating in the 'Takeover' of their area. The Takeover is a multi-venue, multi-band event with the aim of raising money for Oxfam and the great work that they do.

All of the teams are run by volunteers - none of us get paid. We would love to get a salary and to provide you with one but for every pound we spend that's one less Oxfam receive. So this is a voluntary position and no salary is offered. We do it to because we love music and to help Oxfam do what they do best, work with others to help overcome poverty and suffering.

...here's abit about Oxjam CHISWICK

Chiswick is no longer renowned for it's music scene, we still have some venues thankfully but we're not a Shoreditch, Bricklane or even Islington. So we wanted to do something special and in 2011 we proudly put Oxjam Chiswick on the Oxfam and Oxjam map, we raised the most of any Takeover in their first year, we broke the previous London record and we were in the top 3 nationally for 2011 and top 10 of all time.

We had 6 venues hosting 69 bands and 1 DJ and over 700 people came to our Takeover Day in October and nearly 1000 people attended our events. Naturally we want to build on the success we had last year and be raise the most for Oxfam.

We had Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) open our Takeover, received media coverage in the local press, magazines, radio and in 7 different countries.

It wasn't without our problems though but we persevered, pushed on and made them happen and had alot of fun along the way and were really proud of what we achieved.

...here's abit about the role...

The MC will be able to tap into all the contacts, databse info and knowledge we have from last year to make this year even bigger and better. We already have a fb page with 200 'friends', a twitter account and a website (which we'll bring upto 2012 speed in the next week or so). We have a 3min promo and a 30 min 'documentary' video from 2011 being uploaded to our site and youtbe in the next few weeks, so you'll have a head start this year. :-))

There is an Oxjam Conference in Birmingham on the w/end of 15/16/17 June and the MC would be required to attend. All 47 Oxjam teams will be there - nearly 200 people and 46 other MC! It's great fun, but also really helps in understanding the role better, why we do it and how to get the most out of the role. They'll be the 4 from Oxjam Chiswick going (Fundraising, Production, Marketing and me (Takeover Manager)). The weekend accom is provided by Oxfam and we can recoup our travel expenses.

The MC role is one of the 4 crucial roles within the team and is critical to our success. Below is a guide of some of the skills and attributes you will have. They are not set in stone though, a passion for what we are about and a committment to get involved and get others involved is important.

• An understanding of marketing and event promotion (experience is desirable)
• Excellent communication skills, particularly written
• Innovative and creative approach that can be applied to promoting events
• Outstanding organisation skills, with experience of managing projects to deadlines.
• Good knowledge of your local music scene and regional media.
• The ability to work independently and under your own steam – support will be provided by your Takeover manager, Regional Manager and Oxfam but it is important that you feel confident coordinating your flagship event’s promotion and talking to the press.
• A passion for fighting poverty

The Oxfam guidelines are for circa 10 hours a week April to August and 15-20 hours a week in Sept & Oct and it is important you have the weekend of the 20th October free.

If you have specialist skills in Press, PR, Online or Offline we would love to hear from you.
