Sorry, this ad is no longer available.

Discovering Latin America (DLA) is a UK registered charity (no. 1106705), with central operations in London. Our mission as an organisation is to improve the lives of disadvantaged people within Latin America by sharing its culture, art and creativity with British and European audiences.

Every year, DLA organises a series of events showcasing the diverse elements of Latin American culture, including: Cinema, Theatre, Literature and Music and Dance. Our team in charge of Latin American Literature is building a production team for our first Literature Festival which will take place around May-June 2010.

Literature Festival 2010 - Discovering Latin America

Literature is one of the most important and vibrant areas of Latin American culture, and one which has generated much interest worldwide. The Literature Festival aims to draw on this, and to celebrate Latin American literature through a diverse programme of talks, book launches and discussions bringing together well-known authors and new writers from across the region. It will provide a space in London for introducing the best new writing from Latin America, as well as revisiting some of the region’s best loved and most read authors.

As a new addition to the DLA programme, this provides an exciting opportunity to be part of a brand new project from its outset, and to get involved in all aspects of running a commercially successful cultural festival. If you want to be involved we want to hear from you, whether your dream is event organising, or if you love Latin American Literature, or if you have a connection to or interest in Latin America and simply want to help its people.

There are currently a number of vacancies to fill, and we desperately need people to join the media and press; marketing and fundraising teams:

Marketing Team: We are looking for volunteers with experience in this field, with exciting ideas and connections to help to promote and brand the festival. The marketing team will be in charge of producing all the promotional material, including catalogues and flyers, and a flair for design and creativity will be an asset. For anyone interested in pursuing a career in marketing this will provide a great opportunity to gain CV points.

Media and Press Team: Volunteers with a background in media and journalism, or who wish to progress in a career in this field, are needed to generate press coverage both pre and post event, and build relationship with the relevant media. This team will work with both the British and Latin American press and will also be responsible for raising the events’ profile through new media channels including social networking sites such as YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Hi5 etc.

Grants and Sponsorship: DLA is a charity which works with very little budget. In order to secure funding for our events, we need to sell sponsorship. So if you have experience in sales and believe in what we do, come and help us to make this amazing festival possible!!

Programming and Production Team:
The programming team is almost full but we do still have a vancancy for someone with experience working in book publishing in the UK. If you are familiar with the publishing business in the UK and if you know about Latin American writers that might be published in English in the UK during this year and the first half of 2010, come and talk to us. This is a very important area and we are looking for someone Urgently!!

If you are interested in any of these areas and would like to join us, send us your CV and covering letter via e-mail. Please don't forget to tell us the area that you are interested in.
