FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY for an EXPERIENCED MALE CARER to work with a unique young male adult with special needs. The client is partially sighted with needs that are a complex mix of sensory, communication, intellectual, emotional and social. He enjoys all forms of creative art, which includes drama, music, singing, dancing, theatre productions, films and shows. This young adult is vibrant and a real joy to work with.
You must have a GENUINE interest and EXPERIENCE working with adults with special needs and a good UNDERSTANDING of the issues of working with people who have a learning disability.
The applicant must be ENTHUSIASTIC, OUTGOING, RELIABLE, have excellent TIME KEEPING, be PATIENT and PERISTENCE. You will be required to build a trusting RELATIONSHIP and strong rapport with the client.
Duties to include:
Encouraging and supporting physical activity through physical games and gym activities
Escorting client to activities such as music or drama classes
Teaching independence /writing (educating)
Community engagement /Day trips
An awareness of the clients emotional and spiritual need and ability to recognise the signs when the client is stressed and needs support
To ensure the maintenance of high standards of nutrition, health, safety, cleanliness and personal hygiene, Assisting the client to dress, Wash/ bath.etc
To work in accordance of health and safety guidelines and any other current legislation
To plan and develop a scheduled programme of activities for the client during weekends and holidays and work in conjunction with the clients family
To work in accordance with and develop Care/Personal Plans through ongoing discussions and direction of the family.
Assist with rehabilitative programs and promote independence by enabling, maintaining, improving and maximising the individuals functioning.
Light household duties which may include: Laundry, dusting, vacuuming, tidying, bed making.etc
Making transport arrangements
Escorting clients to appointments
Shopping ensuring all receipts are kept
To support and enable good relations between the individual and the local and community
To establish and maintain good working relationships with parents, relatives and friends of client
To be flexible and adaptable in their working hours
Caring, diplomatic and have an ability to recognise the signs when the client is stressed and needs support.
Intuitive with a good sense of humour
Knowledge and Expertise:
General care experience
Ideally some experience in caring for clients in their own home
Ideally NVQ Care Level 2 or 3
An enhanced disclosure with the Criminal Records Bureau.
