Experienced Literacy Tutor needed for Creative Youth Engagement Project

This role is an excellent opportunity for a capable literacy tutor to help vulnerable and sometimes challenging young people to achieve a literacy qualification within an informal learning setting.

Vital Regeneration's Create+ Programme aims to help NEET/at-risk of NEET young people to re-engage with education. This will be achieved through teaching them practical skills in music production or filmmaking as part of an 11-week course, embedding within it the development of literacy skills (working towards an OCR adult literacy basic skills qualification). You will form part of a growing team in an exciting, dynamic, and creative project that is fast expanding.

Our ideal candidate will have:
• Experience of teaching literacy to NEET/at-risk of NEET teenagers, who are vulnerable and sometimes challenging
• Experience in assessing young people's initial literacy levels, setting goals for improvement, and providing group and one-to-one and tutoring in a classroom setting with a view to the achievement of an appropriate basic skills qualification.
• The ability to embed Adult Literacy into informal learning
• The ability to provide empathetic support to young people and to capture soft outcomes

Pay:
£25/hour (teaching rate - you will be expected to carry out planning and to provide schemes of work and lesson plans within this rate)

£12/hour (non-teaching/meeting rate)

Location: Various outreach locations in the boroughs of Westminster, Hammersmith & Fulham, Brent and Camden

Core hours: 5 - 10/ week (with the potential for extension in the near future)

Note: This post may involve both daytime and/or evening work.

Contract type: Fixed term, 10-12 weeks from April 2012, with possibility of extension.
