BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF NORTHFIELD ECOCENTRE
Northfield Ecocentre works with the community to find practical ways to live better and protect the environment. The Ecocentre is a place where people can share knowledge, ideas & experience, ask questions & find practical solutions to sustainable living. As well as a drop in advice centre we offer workshops, demonstrations, talks and groups on a range of issues from organic gardening, sewing and crafts and cycle maintenance to insulating your home. The aim of the groups is to provide an informal, friendly and welcoming environment where local people can learn and share skills that will help them to live more sustainably (e.g. gardening, sewing and crafts, family hour).
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communications
To assist Northfield Ecocentre team to:
Promote Ecocentre activities as follows:
Online Regularly update the Ecocentre website, blog, Facebook, Twitter etc
Print Develop and update the monthly Ecocentre newsletter and e-mailing list
Promote group activities externally (e.g. flyering)
Update and maintain the Ecocentre display boards
Outreach Promote groups at local outreach events (e.g. stalls)
Networks Research and develop a network of local organisations through which to promote
Ecocentre activities to a wider audience (print, online, word of mouth)
Press Write press releases about group related activities
This position is for either an individual with a marketing background who would like to gain practical experience within an environmental organisation, or an individual with an environmental background who would like to develop their marketing skills.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Essential
Strong communications skills
Confidence working with computers (using Word, Excel, internet research)
Experience promoting events using social networking tools (e.g. Facebook, Twitter)
Ability to work as part of a small team often relying on own initiative.
Ability to work under direction and to meet deadlines
Creativity, enthusiasm & flexibility
Strong organisational skills and reliability
Good inter-personal skills (e.g. outgoing, sociable, diplomatic, good listener)
Desirable
An interest in sustainable living
Experience creating press releases and contacting the media
Experience facilitating informal workshops
