A very rare and unusual Gibson ES 135. This guitar was made in 2006, which is around four years after Gibson ceased production of the ES 135 in favour of the ES 137. The 137 features a mahogany centre block instead of the "chromyte" (balsa wood) one of the 135, to facilitate the fitting of the Tune-O-Matic bridge and stop tailpiece in place of the trapeze of the 135. This guitar features the same mahogany block, but unlike the ES 137 - and any previous versions of the ES 135, as far as I can tell - it also has a mahogany neck. And unlike previous ES 135s, the neck is bound.
The neck profile is somewhere between the chunkier '50s type and slimmer '60s type, measuring around 21mm thick at the 1st fret and 26mm at the 12th. The frets are relatively tall and narrow for a Gibson but nevertheless, it's a very easy-playing guitar for both chord- and lead-work.
Another difference between this and previous versions of the ES 135 is the pickups; this one has P90s instead of the P100s fitted to earlier models. They sound great and make this a really versatile instrument, capable of everything from delicate, bell-like clean sounds to heavily overdriven, humbucker-esque sounds, but always with that characteristicly dominant upper mid frequency which makes the P90 stand out so well in a band mix.
The guitar is completely original, in very good condition indeed and comes with the original hard case, shown in the photos.
There is no discernable fret-wear, the set-up is good, with a low-ish action (no buzzing or dead notes) and plenty of adjustment for either a lower of higher action if desired.
There are two small marks on the back of the headstock - shown in the photos below - but otherwise the condition is exceptional, as previously stated.
