THE STITCHERY - Sewing Classes in Glasgow

The Stitchery is a place to create, to make friends and to unwind. It is the home of practical courses and workshops, taught by our resident designer Cassandra Belanger. Instruction covers a wide variety of fashion and design related subjects, such as sewing basics, using a sewing machine, understanding a flat pattern, the design process, seams, hems and basics alterations (to name just a few).

The classes are aimed at people of all skill levels, whether you're a complete novice or already have some sewing experience. They are informal, relaxed, and typically full of good banter. There's plenty of tea and coffee drinking involved and, if you're lucky, a taste of Cassandra's home baked delights.

Taught by Knitwear Designer, Kristen Orme. Learn the basics of knitting in this 3 week introductory course. Create your very own wrist-warmers for the coming winter season. A perfect christmas gift (or gift to yourself!).

A three day, intermediate level workshop guiding you through the steps of how to make the vintage blouse, designed by Cassandra Belanger & Kristen Orme and featured on the most recent cover of Cloth Magazine (

Sunday 18th November - THE KNITTED COLLAR
Led by knitwear designer, Kristen Orme
11am - 4pm

Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th November - THE BLOUSE
Led by in-house designer and instructor, Cassandra Belanger
Make either the Cloth Blouse or the Sencha Blouse.
11am - 4pm both days

Cost: 3 day workshop is £140. Or choose your days at £50 per day.
Lunch will be included in the cost on all days. Materials to be provided by students

12 weeks -- every Monday, 7-9pm
£200 + fabric costs
November 12 - February 11th (with break for Christmas)
Learn to make a tailored jacket using couture tailoring techniques. This is an intermediate+ level course for those with previous apparel sewing experience. Suitable for anyone who has already done our Dressmaking & Design course or those with their own project experience. Perfect for the coming winter months or why not make a Christmas gift!

10 weeks -- every Tuesday, 7-9pm
New course starting in February 2013
£150 + fabric costs
Learn the basics of how to use a sewing machine, how to use a flat pattern, basic stitches and foundationary sewing techniques. Then apply what you've learned to creating a simple garment using a fabric of your choice. A great starting point for beginner sewers!

10 weeks -- Thursday, 7-9pm
New course starting in February 2013
£150 + fabric costs
An intermediate level course and a perfect next step on from Sewing for Beginners. Learn dressmaking techniques, then apply them to making your own dress in a fabric of your choosing. A fun and relaxing way to take your skills up a notch.

One of The Stitchery's continual offerings is private tution, tailored (...excuse the pun...) to your very own needs. So whether you'd like to learn dressmaking, or how to make a cushion cover, or if you want to book a block of 10 sessions, or simply a one-off to brush up on the basics, we're here to accomodate.
