Korfball is a mixed-sex team sport played by hand within a rectangular field of play. Teams of four female players and four male players try to shoot a ball into a korf (basket). The sport’s main characteristics encompass all-round skills, co-operative play, controlled physical contact and gender equality.
Each team is split into two divisions with 2 male and 2 female players per division. One division on each team starts in an attacking role, the other in a defending role. Players have free movement on the pitch, except that they cannot cross over the half way line. After 2 goals, the players swap roles, with the attackers becoming defenders and vice versa.
The korfball post is positioned 1/3rd of the half in from the back line allowing play behind the post. The basket has no back-board, and is higher than in netball or basketball.
Players are not allowed to run with the ball, or dribble (bounce) the ball. Only controlled contact is allowed.
Originating in Holland, Korfball is now played internationally in 57 different countries.

Training is at Talybont Sports Centre 7pm - 9pm Tuesdays!
